Application, scope & purpose
“Sperimentazione Italia” (Italy Experiments) is a general-purpose regulatory sandbox open to startups, companies, universities, and research centres. It allows temporary waivers of existing regulations for innovative projects, including those in education, public governance, and social interaction using Virtual Worlds.
MV/VW environment
Includes pilots using VR/AR for remote learning, digital public services, and virtual citizen engagement platforms.
Role of sandbox
Provides a legal and regulatory safe space for real-world testing of innovations, with temporary suspension of conflicting rules.
Results obtained
- Enabled the launch of VR-based remote learning pilots and digital citizen consultation platforms;
- Produced regulatory learning for future reforms.
