ISIN at SUPSI
The Institute of Information Systems and Networking (ISIN) is part of the Department of Innovative Technologies (DTI) of SUPSI (University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland). The institute carries out consolidated applied research activities recognised locally, nationally, and internationally across six scientific areas.
In Audiovisual Processing and Immersive Multimedia, a core focus of the institute, ISIN develops advanced computer graphics, real-time 3D simulations, GPU computing, extended reality (XR), virtual reality (VR), immersive digital experiences, digital games, and computer vision applications for training, cultural heritage, and entertainment but also industrial domains and manufacturing. In Data Engineering, Analysis and Processing, the institute works on data modelling, visualisation, behavioural analysis, and Big Data processing. Through Advanced Human-Computer Interaction, ISIN designs innovative interaction systems, custom user interfaces, gesture recognition, body tracking, biometrics, emotion recognition, and natural language processing. The Trustworthy and Secure Information Networks and Society area addresses data confidentiality, trusted algorithms, network security, and computational social sciences. In Cloud and Distributed Systems, ISIN designs cloud-native applications, serverless and microservices architectures, distributed systems, HPC, and blockchain solutions. Finally, Educational and Open-Science Technologies focuses on applying ICT and open data to education, with a strong emphasis on knowledge transfer.
ISIN brings together experts in software engineering, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, and extended reality, delivering high-performance, accessible, and customised solutions that bridge advanced digital technologies and real-world industrial and societal challenges.
