Description

Consensive develops professional software solutions and turnkey systems for Social Mixed Reality. Founded in 2021 as a spin-off from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the company builds on more than two decades of joint XR research. Its platform VR4more enables shared 3D experiences with large 3D scenes across locations and platforms. It is powered by two core technologies: GLoD, a geometry-streaming format and runtime for output-sensitive rendering of arbitrarily large 3D models on consumer hardware (Laval Virtual 2025 Award), and CommonGround, an open networking infrastructure for cross-platform synchronization. Industrial clients use Consensive's technology for product presentations, immersive training, and remote support. The team of 11 is continuously contributing to cooperative research projects.

Consensive's core expertise lies at the intersection of real-time 3D graphics, collaborative systems, and human-centred interface design. The founding team has contributed to multiple joint research projects. The team's scientific output comprises over 60 peer-reviewed publications in venues including IEEE TVCG, ACM Transactions on Graphics, Presence, and ACM CSCW.

Products and/or services:

Consensive's product portfolio centres on VR4more, a Social Mixed Reality platform that connects multiple participants inside the same interactive 3D scene — across XR headsets, desktops, tablets, and web browsers, from different locations, in real time. VR4more combines two core technologies developed in-house: GLoD (Geometry Level of Detail), a geometry-streaming format and runtime that delivers arbitrarily large 3D models directly to consumer hardware through output-sensitive rendering and out-of-core data management; and CommonGround, an open networking infrastructure that synchronizes state, interaction, and audio across platforms and devices. The system requires no render servers and operates on standard WiFi with minimal bandwidth.

On this platform, Consensive offers three tiers of deployment. The XR Showcase is a turnkey Mixed Reality solution for industrial clients, designed for product presentations at trade fairs, on-site client demos, and training facilities. The Converseum is the equivalent turnkey installation for education and culture, enabling groups to experience and discuss interactive 3D scenes together, locally and across locations. Beyond these standard configurations, Consensive builds bespoke applications with client-specific functionality, custom workflows, and dedicated integrations.

GLoD is additionally available as a separately licensable Unity package for third-party developers and studios requiring high-performance geometry streaming in their own applications.

Key application domains include virtual product presentations, immersive training on digital twins, remote technical support, design reviews, and collaborative exploration of cultural heritage sites.
