Somnium Space, founded in 2017, is an open-source virtual reality metaverse built on Ethereum (with Polygon for scalability). Available on VR headsets, desktop and web, it offers one seamless, persistent world without loading-room segmentation.
The platform empowers users to create and customise parcels of land, homes, avatars, wearables and entire VR experiences using its builder tool and SDK. These creations are tradeable on its internal marketplace or external NFT platforms via tokenisation in CUBE and NFTs.
Somnium Space supports creator monetisation — from asset sales and events like concerts or workshops to VR real-estate speculation — without taking a cut on earnings.
The immersive experience is continually enhanced: it features AI-driven “Live Forever” recording, full-body/finger/eye tracking, a new desktop-control app, audio-reactive systems, robust social features, SDK validation, and an evolving “Worlds Hub”.
