ZVEI (Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie e.V.) is Germany’s leading trade association for the electrical and digital industries. Established in 1918 and headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, ZVEI represents over 1,100 member companies, ranging from SMEs to global corporations. Collectively, these companies employ approximately 900,000 people in Germany and generate an annual turnover of €220 billion (2024), making this sector the country’s second-largest industrial employer after mechanical engineering.
ZVEI serves as a central platform for policy advocacy, industry collaboration, and promoting digital transformation in Germany and Europe. The association is structured into 22 sector-specific divisions and operates nine regional offices across Germany. It also maintains international representation through offices in Berlin, Brussels, and Beijing.
Key focus areas include:
Electrification and Digitalization: Advocating for the transition to an “All-Electric Society” by integrating renewable energy, smart infrastructure, and digital technologies.
Research and Innovation: The industry invests around €20 billion annually in R&D, accounting for nearly 25% of all R&D spending in Germany’s manufacturing sector.
Global Trade and Supply Chains: Promoting open markets and addressing challenges in global supply chains, including semiconductor shortages and PCB production dependencies.
Sustainability and Circular Economy: Supporting initiatives for energy-efficient buildings, low-emission transportation, and sustainable manufacturing practices.
