Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (MBB), established in 2004, serves as the primary institution for film and media funding in Germany’s capital region. Its Immersive Funding Program is dedicated to supporting projects that push the boundaries of traditional media through immersive technologies. 

Key Features

  • Scope of Funding: Supports the development and production of projects utilizing virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and other immersive technologies. 

  • Application Process:

    • Submit a one-pager via email to the funding executive at least six weeks before the deadline.

    • Schedule an application meeting; this must occur at least two weeks before the submission deadline.

    • Post-meeting, access to the application platform is provided. 

  • Eligibility: Open to developers and independent producers with a permanent company seat in Berlin-Brandenburg or Germany. 

  • Funding Type: Conditionally repayable interest-free loans, typically covering up to 50% of the total project costs. 

  • Additional Support: MBB also funds the presentation of immersive content at selected festivals and provides proprietary event formats aimed at further development and cross-discipline networking within the games industry.
