GameStage

GameStage is an Austrian nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting computer game culture and fostering connections among gaming enthusiasts and creators across the country. Founded in 2011 from the Linz-based StarCraft community GameCraft, GameStage has evolved into a vibrant cultural initiative that highlights the diversity of gaming as a medium and encourages dialogue around its artistic and societal dimensions.

GameStage organizes a variety of events and activities that explore the multifaceted nature of games:

  • GameStage@AEC: A recurring event series at the Ars Electronica Center in Linz, featuring talks and interactive installations on topics like sound design in games, game art, and innovative interfaces.

  • GameStage Expo: A multi-day exhibition showcasing indie games, retro gaming, and experimental projects, providing a platform for developers and artists to present their work.

  • GameSpace: A dedicated space within the Tabakfabrik Linz for workshops, meetups, and community gatherings focused on game development and culture.

  • Regular Meetups: Including retro gaming tournaments, Super Smash Bros. training sessions, board game nights, cosplay workshops, and repair cafés for vintage gaming hardware.

These initiatives aim to demystify games as cultural and social phenomena, encouraging the exchange of experiences and ideas among participants.
