FIVR

Founded in 2016, the Finnish Virtual Reality Association (FIVR) is the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR) development in Finland. FIVR’s mission is to establish Finland as a world-leading environment for XR activities by fostering a multidisciplinary and tightly-knit developer community and a comprehensive, high-quality development ecosystem.

To achieve this, FIVR provides free facilities and resources for VR and AR projects through its developer hub network, which currently spans Helsinki, Turku, and Tampere. These hubs offer shared workspaces and equipment for early-phase development teams, including access to VR kits, computer workstations, motion capture suits, and 360-degree cameras.

FIVR also collaborates with organizations like Demos Helsinki to facilitate growth programs that unite small startups with larger corporations to develop VR and AR prototype projects. These initiatives aim to create new business models, foster cooperation, and enhance the overall quality of the local VR and AR startup ecosystem.

The association has conducted comprehensive surveys of the Finnish VR/AR scene, providing valuable insights and statistics on companies and active institutions within the ecosystem.  FIVR’s efforts have contributed to Finland’s reputation as a superpower in VR and AR development, with over 100 VR/AR studios identified in the country.
