Bitkom (Bundesverband Informationswirtschaft, Telekommunikation und neue Medien e.V.) is Germany’s foremost digital association, representing over 2,200 companies in the digital economy. Founded in 1999 in Berlin, Bitkom’s membership encompasses a diverse range of organizations, including more than 1,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), over 500 startups, and nearly all global players in the industry. Collectively, these members generate approximately €140 billion in annual revenue and employ around 700,000 professionals in Germany.
Bitkom serves as the central voice of the digital economy in Germany, advocating for the digital transformation of the economy, society, and public administration. The association’s key objectives include:
Policy Advocacy: Engaging with policymakers at the national and European levels to shape favorable conditions for digital innovation and growth.
Digital Infrastructure: Promoting the rapid expansion of gigabit networks and digital infrastructure across various sectors, including energy, mobility, trade, and smart cities.
Data-Driven Economy: Supporting policies that facilitate data-driven business models, data protection, cybersecurity, and the adoption of disruptive technologies.
Education and Workforce Development: Advocating for lifelong digital education and the integration of digital skills into the workforce to meet the demands of a digitized world.
Bitkom also organizes various events and conferences, such as the Big-Data.AI Summit, Quantum Summit, Legal Tech Conference, Privacy Conference, and the Smart Country Convention, to foster dialogue and collaboration within the digital sector.
